Jami Fosgate, Esq.

Jami Fosgate understands that divorce is emotionally and financially difficult for parents and their children, so her family law practice is devoted to helping people save time and money while minimizing anxiety and stress by resolving their problems through consensual dispute resolution without resorting to litigation.

Jami’s philosophy is that people involved in family law issues should first try to settle their differences outside of court because litigation is extremely expensive, time consuming and emotionally draining. Additionally, the couple loses control in litigation with all decision-making left in the hands of a complete stranger – the judicial officer – who knows nothing about the family’s unique situation.

When Jami went through her own divorce over 20 years ago, she was lost. She was not an attorney, no one in her family was an attorney and no one in her family had been divorced – it was an unknown world. Fortunately, her husband was a reasonable man and together they were able to resolve their case without spending thousands of dollars to hire attorneys and fight in court. This inspired Jami to go to law school to become an attorney and help other couples going through the crisis of divorce who needed guidance and a helping hand.

At Loyola Law School, Jami was on the Dean’s List each semester, active in the Evening Women’s Law Association, selected for membership in the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society, a Law Review staff member and earned the “Best Oral Advocate” award in the annual Scott Moot Court Competition. While attending law school, Jami served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Lawrence W. Crispo (Ret.) at Los Angeles Superior Court and worked for two years as a law clerk at California’s premier appellate firm, Horvitz & Levy. Jami graduated in the top 15% of her law class. Jami is admitted to practice law before all California courts and the United States District Court, Central District.

Upon graduation from Loyola Law School, Jami was selected to serve for two years as a Law Clerk for Los Angeles Superior Court in Civil Law and Motion. Since 2006, Jami has devoted her practice exclusively to Family Law. She is a graduate of Woody Mosten’s Divorce Mediation training program, the Center for Civic Mediation’s beginning and advanced mediation courses and the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association’s collaborative law course. She serves as a volunteer mediator and temporary judge for Los Angeles Superior Court.

In 2019, Jami was honored to be selected as recipient of the Collaborative Practice California “Eureka Award” which recognizes and honors those who “have made significant contributions and demonstrated an abiding dedication to establishing and sustaining Collaborative Practice in California.”

Jami is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association (LACFLA), the Southern California Mediation Association (SCMA), and the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Pasadena Bar Association, San Fernando Valley Bar Association and California Lawyer’s Association.
